Solo Open Meeting 2013 - Yeadon Sailing Club
Up to 8 Solos competed in the Yeadon S C open meeting on 20th October including three visitors from nearby Ripon S C. The fluky light SSE wind, a difficult direction at Y S C, suited the light weather specialists whose main problem was working through the tailenders of the 15 strong Streaker fleet.
After an excellent lunch the wind steadied and strengthened. By the third the sun had come out as well making for good sailing. Bill Wilson in his new blue FRP S 5376 had two firsts and left the racing to the remaining 6 boats. Martin Miller S 4622 from Ripon had been challenging for the lead in the second race until he had to retire to go home. After coming second in the second race Peter Robinson, sailing Howard Chadwick’s S 4529, let his son sail the third in his place which left him fourth overall.
Tony Langley , Yeadon, in his wooden S 4163 was second overall with a 2nd and a 3rd. Andy Cheetham from Ripon in S 4485 received his engraved tumbler and bottle of wine for coming third with a 4th and a 2nd.
Our thanks to Tim Gatti and the National 12 fleet for the smooth running of the event and to the ever dependable galley crew for food and refreshments.
Bill Wilson
