Last Weekend of the Normal Racing Season

Last weekend we had the last weekend of normal Club racing at Yeadon before the Frostbite Series starts this Sunday. What a great weekend for sailing it was too ! Saturday was warm, sunny and an interesting and gusty breeze, whilst Sunday gave everybody a final warm(ish) but windy blast
Andrew led the the final training session of the season Saturday and had a good turn out of members training, with good fleets for the Club racing both days. Well done to Andrew winning both races on Saturday and Graham and Patrick spliting the honours on Sunday.

On Sunday the Frostbite Series starts with 2 races each Sunday up to the 16th December, first race at 12.00 and the second race after lunch starting at 2.00. Come down and join in either on the water or join the enthusiastic specators and watch therace unfold !

Finally for those of you who think it is too warm for frostbiting don't worry the forecast for this weekend has highs of 6 or 7 degrees !

Wrap up warm everybody !!!!!!!!!!!!

CANCELLED - Streaker and Solo Open Meeting - 13th October

Hi everyone,
The forcasts for this Saturday (13th October) at Yeadon all show unsafe wind conditions of 20mph + and gusting up to 55mph. After speaking to the Solo class captain, and stand-in Streaker Class Captain, we have reluctantly decided to cancel the planned open meeting and hence avoid people making un-necessary journeys on the day.
We will endeavour to confirm this via the Streaker and Solo representatives and their websites/social media etc as well as direct contact with local fleets.

Big apologies,

from the Race Team at Yeadon Sailing Club

National Twelve Open Meeting - 7th October 2018

National Twelve Open Meeting at Yeadon     7th October 2018

Following on from the successful National 12 Open Meeting at Ripon SC the day before a smaller, but perfectively formed, fleet assembled at Yeadon on the Sunday to resume battle.
Staunch supporter Angus Beyts had camped overnight at Ripon but with crew issues and a fixed rudder decided not to compete and start his long journey back to Scotland a little earlier.
After a briefing by the Race Team for the day Tony Langley, David Statman and Sarah Cooke the fleet took to the water in a freshening south westerly breeze.  Philip David and Emma Hampshire in 3499 were quick off the line leading John and Allison Cheetham in 3209 then Tim and Christopher Hampshire in 3330 up the first beat.   John and Allison fought through into first place only lose it again to Philip.   Further back Brian and Ros in the only vintage contender filled up on one of the gybe marks and decided to retire.  The excitement of being back in the lead must have been too much for Philip as he fell in also after a rocky gybe leaving John to take the win but recovering to finish second.
After a splendid Yeadon Lunch the fleet again took to the water although Brian and Ros decided the wind was a bit frisky for them so headed in to try the ice cream vans offerings.    Tim Hampshire was first off the line although after the first lap Philip had regained the lead and on lap 3 John also sneaked past into 2nd place.   Further back Neil McInnes and Jon Wheble were sailing in a very consistent 4th place in N3216 followed by Patrick Gaunt and Tony Dufton in Tony’s recently acquired Design 8 N3283.   After some hard racing it was Philip and Emma who took the win closely followed by John and Allison.

Race three was set to be the decider between Philip and John but it was Tim and Christopher who pulled into the lead after the second lap, Philip and Tim swapped the lead numerous times with John snapping at their transoms but in the end Philip and Emma prevailed to take the race and the event win.

Big thanks to the Race Team and the Catering Team who looked after everybody throughout the day and to Ginger Threads for the National 12 embroidered prizes !
