Commodore's Catch up

Hi everyone.
I seem to have been a little busy over the past couple of weeks ferrying boys up and down the country but it was lovely to get out on the water on Tuesday evening...Thank you Richard a lovely gesture.
Tuesdays are still buzzing with all the juniors being guided by Tim. They are all doing really well and gradually realising head to wind is not going to get them anywhere. The Intermediates stayed at the bottom of the tarn where the wind was.
Brian is helping out with Saturday social sailing this week so turn up before 4.30 to ensure an evening sail and to help with the safety boat.
He wonders if anyone is interested in going to the dinghy show on March 2nd-3rd. 2019 Its £10 each for associated clubs and I know members have gone together in previous years and have found it to be a great day out. Please let Brian know if you would be interesting in going.
I know Andrew suggested to those of you who have joined and learnt to sail this year that you consider getting your own boat next season. If you keep an eye on the notice board boats do come up for sale. Oscar has his Topper up for sale at the moment so if you are interested then leave a note on the board for him with your contact details and I am sure he'll get back to you....he is away for a couple of weeks.
The Committee met last week and we discussed the new roof.....that still requires a few tweeks but we're waiting for rain to see what they might be. Nice to have the shutters open again and the club house looks loved.
Training is still on next Tuesday as Tim is still with us before he jets off to Chicago. All helpers welcome.
Racing continues Weds, Sat and Sundays....come on have a go!
The next club event is Barts Bash - Sunday Sept 16th
First race at 2.30. Lunch will be provided at a small cost. This event is in memory of Andrew Simpson (Bart) an Olympic Gold Medal sailor who drowned whilst training for the America's Cup in San Francisco. The charity organises Bart's Bash as a worldwide event that encourages as many sailors to get out on the water over 24 hours.  Any funds raised will go to Barts Charity who supports getting people into sailing and racing.
Regards to everyone and enjoy your summer break if heading off.

Day Trophy Race - Sunday 15th

The final club 'Day Trophy' is on next Sunday (15th July).
This time we will be running an endurance race team event (4 hour race starting at 1pm).
The boats to be used would depend on entries, but ideally will all be double-handers and also the teams would ideally be two experienced and two inexperienced members.
Please let me know if you would like to take part.

I am also looking for some of our more experienced racers to volunteer to be team captains (how many we need would depend on numbers entering).  Could you let me know if you would be willing to do this?

Best wishes,
Andrew

Commodores Weekend 2018 - A Big Thank You

A BIG thank you................ to everyone who made this weekend such a success.
Those who ran races, those who cooked, those who took part and those who visited - you were all brilliant.
I think we all did the club proud and included as many as possible in celebrating the YSC at 90
To have over 80 people attend the Barbecue last night and over 44 have lunch with us today is a measure of the fondness and appreciation we all have for the club and the activities that are run.

Well done everyone and I feel very proud to have the Commodore batton this year and have been part of such an event at such a lovely place.

If you want a laugh take a look at YSC facebook page.  More photos to follow.

See you on the water
Sarah

End of June Update

This weeks Hello..........Tuesday was really buzzing this week with 22 boats out on the water. It was a lovely warm and balmy evening and everyone was really patient sharing the boats.
A reminder that Commodore Weekend kicks off with rigging from 10.00 and then bacon sandwiches from 11.00.
There will be racing for everyone all weekend and we celebrate the Club's 90th year with as many of you as possible.
A little reminder about the Bottle Race, this will be at 3.00pm on Sunday, please bring down any empty plastic bottles you may have so we can put them to good use (before re-cycling them afterwards) !
We have to send final barbecue numbers to Andy by Tuesday and a few people who have mentioned they are coming have not booked in. I don't want anyone to go hungry so please if you have either not filled in the Commodore weekend ticket on WebCollect, or put your name down on the list last week in the club house or let Neil know - can you please let me know so we can cater for everyone. We have about 59 booked in so it should be a lively evening !
Looking forward to a great weekend of fun. - Sarah
