Luke has had two good weeks racing his Topper in recent North East Traveller Events.
Firstly at Yorkshire Dales SC on a sunny but windy day he won 2 out the 3 races despite suffering from gear failure at the start of the second race to win that event.
Then the next weekend at Beaver, in lighter winds but rain (ugh!) 23 Toppers turned up to contest the Northern Championship. The lighter winds kept the fleet close together and each race was very competitive with a number of sailors getting to the front at times however in the two races after lunch Luke got to the front when it really mattered – at the Finish to win this event also !
The leading boats going up the beat |
Calum, Luke’s swimming, sorry sailing partner in the RS200 on Tuesday Night pushed Luke really hard in the event to take 2nd place.
Going into a summer break from the North East Travellers Series, Tom Clayton and Luke are locked together at the top so it will be interesting who comes back from the Nationals and Worlds in the best form and does well in the remaining events of the series.
See yachtsandyachting.com for the full write ups of the two events.
