Yeadon Streaker Open Meeting on Sunday 14 th Sept.
Yeadon acted as hosts to five home boats and one visitor from Ripon on Sunday. Skies were overcast with light and fickle winds from an Easterly direction. At least it wa not raining !
In the first race, our visitor Pete Smith from Ripon was first at the windward mark followed by John Goodyear from Yeadon. At the wing mark John overtook Peter but was himself overtaken by Dennis Beard (in his first Streaker race ) on the run. John Goodyear with good roll-tacking, and keeping his boat otherwise very upright soon regained his lead and finished 50 yds in front of Dennis and Rob Crossland.
After lunch, excellent chilli con carne with baked potato and dessert with no less than seven ladies waiting on us ( one for each sailor ! ) we started anew with marginally more but still fickle wind. J Goodyear led off the line near the committee boat with a close pack following. He rounded the windward mark with clear air followed by Pete Smith and Tim Hattersley. Rob Crossland unfortunately clipped a buoy so did a penalty turn putting him further down the fleet. The second race finished with John Goodyear 1st by a large margin, with Pete and Dennis 2nd and 3rd.
John Goodyear with two firsts sat out the third race but there was still keen competition for the second and third spot. Pete Smith eventually got the better of Dennis who fell into a hole at no 8 with Rob Crossland following on.
Prizes were presented by the Commodore Tim Hattersley and votes of thanks were made for the excellent lunch and the sterling efforts of the Race Officer Tim Gatti together with Howard Chadwick and the rest of the Nat 12 team
Overall Positions :- 1st J Goodyear ( 2pts ), 2nd P Smith ( 3pts ), D Beard ( 4pts ), R Crossland ( 7pts ), T Hattersley ( 10pts)
and P Metcalfe (11pts).
